This book is an excellent text that should serve its purpose and target audience well. It is a high quality text from the setting of a developing country but most of the content is applicable anywhere in the world.

The chapters in the book are comprehensive and all written to a high standard. Although the book may have a slant for readers in low-resource settings and relative beginners in the skill of gynaecological endoscopy, particularly hysteroscopy and laparoscopy, there is a lot of useful material for the experienced gynaecologist reading to revise their basic knowledge. Most chapters also contain the basic material needed for setting up an endoscopy service, a useful point for the low-resource setting in which the book may find its main audience.

There is a long list of contributors from units in Australia Canada, Egypt, India, Nigeria, Netherlands, UK and USA. This reflects a wide range of backgrounds and practices.

The book is very well illustrated with colour images of a good resolution and quality diagrams when photographs are not appropriate. Such good illustration is an essential property for a book on endoscopy.

Some chapters reflect the period of COVID-19 pandemic during which they were written, aspects that hopefully may now not be required in normal practice.

The book rightly devotes the majority of its chapters to gynaecological laparoscopy and less to hysteroscopy. A chapter on the basic diagnostic hysteroscopy is missing but this does not diminish the value of this book.

Overall, this is an excellent book on this field of gynaecology that is still in relatively early stages in developing countries, where training may be limited and practice may need to be adapted to overcome many local shortcomings.
